2023 KAT-Walk and Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness

The 15th annual KAT-Walk & Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness was held September 24, 2023 in Portland. Families from Maine and throughout New England gathered to celebrate their survival or to remember their loved ones lost to a brain aneurysm. After 14 years, the weather Gods finally hurt us with Hurricane Lee forcing us to postpone the walk by a week. Attendance was certainly affected, but over 170 folks still came to "share their tears, remember with love, and walk and ran to honor."

Among the many highlights of the day was the presentation of the 2023 KAT-Walk & Karo-5K Research Grant to NeuroCOPE, a new program at Maine Medical Center and presentation of the 2023 Scholarships to four students pursing degrees in Nursing, PT and OT.

This year saw 21 Brain Aneurysm survivors with their family and friends participate. 15 teams were recognized for their fundraising efforts including top fundraisers: Team Karolina, Jas Uppal from the UK, Seek the Joy, Team Cheyanne, Team MooMoo, Team Nolan 13, Team Heidi, and Team Artie.

With your help, in excess of $22,000 was raised to provide brain aneurysm awareness, education, funding of research, and general support centered on the Brain Aneurysm community in Maine and northern New England. To all the many families that came and participated, either to celebrate their survival or to remember their lost ones – thank-you for joining us and for your continued support in making this a special day for so many that have been affected by Brain Aneurysms.
