May 20th & 21st - NB13 The Nolan Berthelette Story – Pittsfield, ME
This new documentary tells the bittersweet tale of an inspiring young man’s life, cut all too short by a largely overlooked yet relatively common silent killer. The goal of this documentary is to raise awareness of the symptoms and treatments for brain aneurysms, to honor Nolan’s extraordinary life by preserving his memory, and to bring to light the unwavering support shown by his tight-knit New England community towards his family. May 25 – “Life After Stroke” Conference – Portland, ME
Maine Brain Aneurysm Awareness had a presentation booth at the 9th annual Stroke Conference. This full day event is organized by New England Rehabilitation Hospital and was attended by over 170 stroke patients, caregivers and health care professionals. Art Piteau, Mike Bassett, and Dave McCausland from our Awareness Committee manned the booth and talked to attendees (including 10 Brain Aneurysm survivors) about our Maine Brain Aneurysm Support Group and the upcoming KAT-Walk & Karo-5K on September 17th.
May 26 – Maine Brain Aneurysm Support Group
Doctor Chris Baker gave a talk on “Pipeline Embolization Treatments for Brain Aneurysms”. After the short presentation and questions, we had an open discussion to share challenges and concerns with others who have been through similar experiences.
March was Brain Injury Awareness Month and your Maine Brain Aneurysm Awareness Committee remained busy with several events:
March 5th – Dance for Brain Aneurysm Awareness
Over 170 people attended this social event and raised over $3,000 to benefit Maine Brain Aneurysm awareness, education and research.
March 24th – BIAA - Maine Brain Injury Resource Fair
MBAAC was one of 30 exhibitors having the opportunity to talk with over 150 Brain Injury survivors, family/caregivers, friends, professionals, etc.
March 30th – UNUM - Walk Ways 2016
The KAT-Walk & Karo-5K was one of 20 non-profit organizations that offered their events to the employees of UNUM to register for. The company donates $50 per employee that participates in worthy organizations including Brain Aneurysm Awareness.
