2021 KAT-Walk & Karo-5K

2021 KAT-Walk and Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness

The 13th annual KAT-Walk & Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness was held September 18, 2021 in Portland. Families from Maine and throughout New England gathered to celebrate their survival or to remember their loved ones lost to a brain aneurysm. The weather cleared for the event hosting over 325 people that "shared their tears, remembered with love, and walked and ran to honor."

Among the many highlights of the day was the presentation of the “2021 KAT-Walk & Karo-5K Research Grant” to Dr. Robert Ecker and Dr. David Seder from Maine Medical Center Neuroscience Institute and presentation of the 2021 Scholarships to five students from the University of New England and University of Southern Maine.

This year saw 35 Brain Aneurysm survivors with their family and friends participated. 17 teams were recognized for their fundraising efforts including top fundraisers: Team Karolina, Team Cheyanne, The BURRvivors, Team Nolan 13, Team Midge, Team Heidi, Felicia’s Flock, Team Moo-Moo, and Team Amy.

With your help, in excess of $20,000 was raised to provide brain aneurysm awareness, education, funding of research, and general support centered on the Brain Aneurysm community in Maine and northern New England. To all the many families that came and participated, either to celebrate their survival or to remember their lost ones – thank-you for joining us and for your continued support in making this a special day for so many that have been affected by Brain Aneurysms.
